Looking Back
In 1999,
Cisco Systems acquired privately-held Cerent Corporation
of Petaluma, California. This was a big event for Cisco,
because they entered the optical transport market for
the first time. At the time, Cerent was a leading
developer of next-generation optical transport products.
At that
time, Cisco Systems acquired Cerent Corporation and
Monterey Networks for the combined cost of $7.4 billion!

Cerent was Founded in 1997

This is the original logo for Cerent.
This is why you could possibly see part numbers listed as: Cerent, Cisco Cerent, or Cisco ONS.
Since the Cisco Cerent product
line of used network equipment is no longer being
manufactured, it is important to extend the life
cycle and do "the white glove test" on a regular
basis. Keeping the equipment clean extends the
life of the equipment. So, make sure to reduce the
dust and debris from the room where the equipment
rest - this includes the dust found on the
surrounding racks and floor.
